If ID cards are not required at your school, you are not alone. We have many schools that do not use ID cards using PlascoTrac daily and happily benefiting from remarkable results. While student ID cards are not required for use with PlascoTrac, they certainly make it quick and easy to pull up a student record by scanning a bar code on an ID card. If you don't have ID cards, you can quickly pull up a student’s record by typing in their name or student ID # into PlascoTrac.
If you already have student ID cards provided by another vendor, that is OK too. Assuming the bar code on your current ID card is representative of the identical primary key (usually a student #) you intend to use in PlascoTrac, then your existing bar coded ID cards should work fine. If you would like confirmation, we are happy to test your current bar coded ID cards to confirm compatibility.
These days, schools are largely moving to ID card programs, for a number of reasons. ID cards provide visual identity of students, as well as additional information about them on examination (ex. class, permissions, schedule, etc.). In addition to the obvious benefits mentioned, ID cards are also often a source of pride for students and another opportunity for school branding.
